Eyelash extension is a non surgical cosmetic procedure in which synthetic or fibre lashes are bonded to the natural lashes one by one or in small clusters using an adhesive. Before application, an assessment of the eye area and natural lash condition by a trained applicator is advisable, and a patch test may be considered for people who may be sensitive to adhesive ingredients. The procedure may be suitable for those who wish to simplify their eye makeup and whose natural lashes are assessed as able to support the extensions.

During the application the person reclines with the eyes closed, and placing the lashes can typically take a few hours depending on the chosen style; the process varies from person to person. Because the extensions may gradually shed along with the natural lash growth cycle, periodic infill sessions may be considered to maintain the look. Following the daily aftercare steps recommended by the applicator and keeping the review and infill appointments are regarded as part of the process, both for comfort and for appearance.
