Hair Transplant Graft Calculator

This calculator shows an indicative graft range based on your hair loss stage, hair thickness, donor density and goal. It takes six short steps and the result appears right on this page. The range is a planning estimate; the final graft count and method are set by a doctor after an examination. Results vary from person to person.

Step 1 of 6

Who is this graft estimate for?

Men are assessed on the Norwood scale, women on the Ludwig scale.

How is the estimate calculated?

The calculator starts from the full-coverage range for the stage you choose and adjusts it by four factors:

  • Hair loss stage: the size of the thinning area on the Norwood scale for men or the Ludwig scale for women.
  • Hair thickness: thicker strands cover more scalp per graft, finer strands may need more grafts.
  • Goal: the hairline only, the front and mid scalp, or the full area including the crown.
  • Donor capacity: the density at the back and sides sets the upper limit of grafts that can be taken safely; the range never exceeds it.

Two people at the same stage can need different numbers of grafts because of head size, hair type and donor density. That is why the calculator shows a range, not a fixed number.
