About This Treatment
Botulinum toxin treatment, commonly known as botox, is a medical aesthetic procedure in which a doctor injects botulinum toxin into selected facial muscles to reduce the appearance of dynamic lines caused by facial expressions. It is usually considered for lines that become visible with movement, such as those on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Whether it suits you is decided at a doctor examination that takes into account skin and muscle structure, health history and expectations.
The procedure usually takes 15-30 minutes; anaesthesia is usually not required, and a topical numbing cream can be used on request. The effect starts within a few days, becomes more noticeable in about two weeks and lasts for a few months, depending on the person and the area treated. Brief redness, mild swelling or bruising may occur afterwards, and the doctor shares aftercare advice. Results vary from person to person.
